Mareeba Wedding, Backyard Ceremony
An invitation to document the wedding of a photographer is one of the biggest compliments. Before the wedding day, I didn’t think too much about the fact I was about to photograph another photographer and the nerves were pretty chill. However, when the day arrived and I met Nadine it suddenly hit me. She has worked in the wedding industry for years and will be viewing these photos as a professional! I openly admitted these thoughts to her while she was in the makeup chair. Nadine made me feel totally at ease instantly because it was all about trust and confidence. She trusted me to just do my thing, have fun and experiment, and this was a huge confidence boost.
The ceremony was something special. A day before the wedding they cleared a space surrounding a massive tree near their property. This was the perfect spot for Gab from Nine Blooms to work her magic. She got those colour tones on point! The entire ceremony was filled with love, happiness and heart-pulling moments. It was more than the bonding of two people… it was about a family coming together and uniting. Red opened his heart to Nadine’s 3 boys during his vows. During that time I’m pretty sure I had something in my eye… Red had always been welcomed into the family and this moment just cemented it even more. Everybody was surrounded by happy tears.
The celebration continued with a mid-afternoon reception before we went off for the portrait session. We climbed rocks, went walking through tall grass and spent the afternoon watching a sunset over the cotton fields. This is what Mareeba is great at... providing amazing sunsets! Nads wore a dress and held florals that matched every photo location. It was such a pleasure to photograph and watch them both interact as Nads gave Red direction and slight hints for poses. I guess the wedding photographer in us will never die. Once we sent Red off with a beer in hand, myself and Hudson Films spent some time with Nadine during the sunset. At this moment I got a little trigger happy. Nadine centred herself within the cotton field with her hat and an epic sunset backdrop. Just go check out the photos… I don’t think this will ever happen again!
