5 Tips for Stunning Getting Ready Photos

The wedding day has finally arrived! It all kicks off when the hair and makeup artists arrive. Depending on the size of your bridal party, this could be in the early hours of the morning! Shits getting real. The energy will be buzzing because the build-up to this moment has been happening for the past few months!

How can you make the most of this moment and how can you make sure you take the photos to the next level? I’m here to give my 5 top tips to prepare and have the most stunning getting-ready photos!

1. Choosing The Perfect Place To Get Ready.

I can’t stress enough how important this tip is! Your photos will shine more if you put some care and thought into picking your bridal prep location. This can be either a hotel room or, even better, an Airbnb. Why do I lean towards an Airbnb? Because most have more space, character, and the option to cater to a larger crowd.

When choosing a place to get ready, keep in mind the lighting. Photographers need light! Look for a room with large windows that let in plenty of natural light. This will be the perfect spot for your hairstylist and makeup artist to work their magic. It also creates soft, flattering tones for your getting-ready shots.

Extra Tip: Clear out anything that doesn’t need to be in the shot. It helps keep the focus on you, your bridal party, and the little details that make the moment special. A tidy space means your photographer can capture those candid moments without anything in the background pulling attention away, keeping the photos feeling clean

2. Coordinate Your Getting Ready Attire

Coordinating your getting-ready attire is a small detail that can make a big difference in your photos. Opting for matching robes or pyjamas for your bridal party creates a relaxed and fun look that ties everything together. When selecting attire, consider colours or styles that complement your wedding theme or colour palette.

Beyond how they look in photos, coordinating your outfits also helps set the tone for a fun, relaxed atmosphere as everyone gets ready. Who doesn’t love to wear a comfortable silk robe in the morning while getting pampered by the makeup artist?

Before you get in your wedding dress, I’m going to gather you and your crew for a champagne pop. You have the matching attire, and your hair and makeup are complete! Why not celebrate?! It’s a great chance for candid photos with the bride-tribe and also more posed/group photos.

3. Have Your Details Ready

Before the photographer arrives, make sure you take a moment to gather any important items such as your dress, shoes, jewellery, invitation, and any sentimental keepsakes. Having these items ready and in one place saves time and ensures these meaningful details are documented. I’d recommend having them placed in the main bedroom. This way, the photographer can get straight to work after introducing themselves to the bride and her bridesmaids.

4. Keep the Space Calm and Positive

I’m going to be real. Surround yourself with people that make you happy and don’t welcome those who bring negative vibes. This increases stress and anxiety, which is not welcome during bride prep.

If your mind works better in a quiet environment, only invite a small group of people. However, if you need a pick-me-up, invite your hype girls to set the mood.

The energy in the room can have a huge impact on how you feel and how your getting-ready photos turn out. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, make you laugh, and keep the atmosphere light and joyful. This positive energy helps you stay relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera.

Choose a close-knit group of family or friends who are supportive and calm, and who will respect the space you need to enjoy this special time.

5. Trust Your Photographer’s Direction

Trust me. I’ve got this!

Instead of worrying about every little detail or stressing about the perfect pose, just relax and enjoy the moment. I’ll direct you when needed, whether it’s shifting your position or finding that perfect spot with better light. The more you trust me to lead, the more natural and effortless your photos will feel.

When you let go and focus on being with your bridal party or partner, that’s when the magic happens. Take a breath, enjoy yourself, and let the emotions of the day come through.

I know all the ins and outs of every minute during bridal prep. If things need to happen… guess what, I’ll let you know. I don’t want you to run late for your ceremony.
